“Trigger Points” Activism
March 22, 2023
Mass shootings are terrible. And mass shootings ARE preventable. Thoughts and prayers aren’t solutions to the problem of mass shootings. Let’s work together to learn about how we can prevent mass shootings and solve this social problem.
Our FOSB Parent Information Exchange (PIE) book clubbers are running another set of community book club meetups to discuss Mark Follman’s Trigger Points: Inside the Mission to Stop Mass Shootings in America. It is a research-based book with practical advice for preventing mass shootings in our country.
Participation looks like this: read the book (or just read the article about the book) and come to a discussion on March 22 and/or April 5. We’ll share what we have learned so far about what SPS is doing (or could/should be doing) to prevent gun deaths by and of our youth. We are inviting parents from other schools to engage more parents in the topic. .. help spread the word. Location is to be determined based on RSVPs.
Also, the Trigger Points author, Mark Follman, who has dedicated much of his journalism career to this topic, is coming to Seattle for a public speaking event on April 25! We’ll gather info and spread the word as soon as we have it.
If you’re interested, please email the PIE Committee at fosbpie@gmail.com. Let us know if getting a copy of the book is a barrier to your participation. We have some copies available for sharing.
